Στο καφέ ενός σιδηροδρομικού σταθμού, η νοικοκυρά Laura Jesson συναντά το γιατρό Alec Harvey. Παρά το γεγονός ότι και οι δύο είναι ήδη παντρεμένοι, βαθμιαία ερωτεύονται μεταξύ τους. Θα συνεχίσουν να συναντιόνται κάθε Πέμπτη στο μικρό καφέ, παρόλο που ξέρουν ότι η αγάπη τους είναι αδύνατη.
